Hello Friends of Belmont Boulevard, Thank yo...

Hello Friends of Belmont Boulevard, Thank you for making our first Belmont Boulevard Community Meeting a huge success! We appreciate your comments, ideas and concerns. Let’s keep the conversation going! Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, Inc. will host the 2nd Belmont Boulevard Traffic and Safety Community Meeting Monday, June 25 5:30-7:30 PM Christ the King School - Parish Hall 3105 Belmont Boulevard Please park in the back parking lot. Enter through the West Wing’s rear entrance of the school These are “drop-in” meetings, so stop in anytime between 5:30-7:30 PM to chat with members of Metro Planning and Public Works, BHN Steering Committee, your State and Metro representatives, and fellow neighbors. The purpose of these meetings is to work on a redesign of Belmont Boulevard that addresses serious traffic concerns such as speeding, passing in bike lanes, and driving through pedestrian crosswalks. The design team from Metro Planning and Public Works are assessing the information shared by neighbors at the first meeting and will provide more examples of proven traffic calming and usability methods that will create a safer and more complete Belmont Boulevard. The 3rd Community Meeting will be in about 3-4 weeks. All of the information collected from the first 2 Community Meetings will be compiled to create a comprehensive design that will make Belmont Boulevard safer and a more effective complete street for our neighborhood. This design will be presented at the 3rd Community Meeting (date tbd). Implementation of this design could happen as early as this fall. Please share this information with your neighbors and on social media. We have a great opportunity to create a Belmont Boulevard that will serve everyone safely and beautifully. We need everyone’s help in bringing all of these great ideas to the table and to learn about proven design options that address our collective concerns. Let’s work together to make Belmont Boulevard the Best Street in Nashville! Cynthia J. Hicks, President Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, Inc

Calypso Cafe serves up healthy, happy, thrifty meals
When I am looking for an affordable lunch, I often have to be creative with the menu to be sure I stay under my self imposed $10 lunch limit. Sometimes, I will split a side dish with a lunch mate, or just order several sides instead of an entree to keep my tab down under 10 bucks.

Selling William Edmondson home site 'a catastrophe for Nashville' | Opinion

He lived and worked in the Edgehill Neighborhood at 1434 14th Ave South for his whole career. He made all of his art on that site. He entertained artists and writers from all over the country there.

Selling William Edmondson home site 'a catastrophe for Nashville' | Opinion
As a scholar and professor of American art history, currently at work on a book on William Edmondson, I wish to express my dismay over current plans to sell the public lands that comprise the Edgehill Community Memorial Garden and the Murrell School.

Revitalized Gateway Arch in St. Louis reopens just in time for July 4
I was rattling across a hot, dusty prairie in an overloaded covered wagon, an exciting if somewhat uncomfortable adventure that began in St. Louis and would end somewhere on the western frontier. I spent the long hours on the trail dreaming of the future.

3 Nashville property sales face roadblocks, jeopardizing millions for Metro budget

Facing the most backlash is the proposed sale of the old Murrell School property, totaling more than seven acres, at 1450 14th Avenue South in Edgehill.

He instead suggested the sale of a different property — 501 Interstate Boulevard near Nolensville Pike, which sits atop a hill with great views of downtown. The city uses the land to park school buses.

The sale of the former fire hall involves 0.87 acres of prime real estate in the middle of Green Hills at 2025 Richard Jones Road

The Metro Fire Department abandoned the fire station in 2015 to move into a new Station 20 facility at 1626 Harding Place.

On the same night as the Murrell school meeting last week, Murphy held a separate meeting on the future of the public works facility at 3800 Charlotte Avenue. She said the neighborhood is still reviewing what it would like to see at the site.

7 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Ole Opry House (2804 Opryland Drive), $40-$99

Megan Mullally's 'punk vaudeville' show hits Opry stage
It's OK to be confused by Nancy And Beth at first glance. Maybe the second glance, too. Despite the name, there are no Nancys or Beths to be found in the band, which is fronted by Megan Mullally, best known for playing booze-addled narcissistic socialite Karen Walker on "Will and Grace," and Stephanie Hunt, who's appeared on "Friday Night Lights" and "Californication."
