A vehicle hit a hydrant this morning causing this geyser at Harding Place and Belle Meade. A little Friday Fact about our hydrants: Given the climate around here, we have what are called “dry cap” hydrants (to avoid the issues of freeze thaw cycles). Usually when a vehicle hits a dry cap hydrant, there is a breakaway rod that prevents water from coming out of the main. However, every once in a while (like in this case) the rod does not break away and the main gets opened.
