The classic tragedy - widely considered to be the Bard's most famous and influential work - offers a haunting exploration of human frailty and revenge. "It's a story of morality," says artistic director Denice Hicks.

Toast new year with Inebriated Shakespeare

Festivities run 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Belmont University’s Troutt Theater, 2112 Belmont Blvd. Admission is free. Visit nashvilleshakes.org for more information.

The New Year's Eve show is at 9 p.m. (doors open at 8 p.m.) at Music Valley Event Center, 2416 Music Valley Dr. Tickets are $5, available at door or by calling 615-902-9566. 

It runs at  8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at Third Coast Comedy Club, 1310 Clinton St., Suite 121. Tickets are $12, available at www.thirdcoastcomedy.club.

An opening reception will be held 5-8 p.m. Saturday. The show runs through Jan. 27.  David Lusk is at 516 Hagan St.  Its hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.  Admission is free.

    Wildcard Productions' Inebriated Shakespeare is back and ready to open its third season with a special New Year's Eve performance. The hilarious evening begins with actors drinking shots and then attempting to "soliloquy under the influence," with an abridged version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Ring in the new year and the The Nashville Shakespeare Festival's 30th Anniversary Season with the 5th Annual Winter Shakespeare Open House at Belmont University’s Troutt Theater (2112 Belmont Blvd, Nashville.) On Sunday, December 31, 2017 from 1 - 4:00 PM enjoy hot drinks and homemade snacks, 10% off tickets and VIP royal packages, and a sneak preview of the Festival’s production of Hamlet, which opens January 4, 2018. Catch a glimpse into the process of rehearsing Shakespeare’s most famous work! The cast will be in the midst of one of their final run-throughs of the show, which features live music by Jack Kingsley and Natalie Bell. The audience is invited to pop in and watch the rehearsal for as long as they like. This event is free and open to the public.

ICYMI... U2's new album has some Belmont connections! Paul Nelson, a 2002 Belmont alumni, served as contractor/leader, while Avery Bright, a 2014 alumni, played the violin and Craig Nelson, a Belmont adjunct faculty member, played string bass.
