That means it's officially time for Ugg Boots, leggings, Pumpkin flavored all the things, and of course, our annual round-up of the best places to celebrate Halloween and trick-or-treat in Nashville! Whether you're an allergy mama or hoping for some candy-free fun, get your costumes ready (or borrowed) and head out for a ghoulishly good time!

    More than 30 classic cars with trunks full of treats will be parked at Franklin Recreation Complex Saturday evening for the family-friendly Spooks and Coupes. The community Halloween event is set for 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 14, and all ages are encouraged to wear costumes to trick-or-treat along the trail behind the recreation center.

University School of Nashville is having its annual Fall Book Frenzy sale of used books, audio books, DVDs, music, games and puzzles from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday in the Cheek Gymnasium at the school, 2000 Edgehill Ave. Most items are 50 cents up to $3, and there is a $5 bag sale at 2 p.m.

    A group of activists and community leaders joined together fifteen years ago to host a new event and form a new organization: Nashville Black Pride. Held in October, the event is organized not to compete with the Nashville Pride organization and events but to offer a safe and affirming place to celebrate the community that it serves.

    Steve Hays, the co-founder of Nashville-based Gobbell Hays Partners Environmental + Architecture, died Wednesday morning after an extended illness. He was 66. Hays, considered a national expert on asbestos-removal issues, was chairman emeritus of the company he co-founded with Ron Gobbell. GHP is 14th-biggest architectural firm in Nashville, according to NBJ research.
