**Village 21 construction** The final phase of the Village 21 Apartments project at the Corner of Wedgewood and 21st is underway. This involves the construction of a restaurant where the bank parking lot used to be. The work for the shell of the building will continue through mid-summer with a goal of opening the restaurant in October. The owner has agreed to accommodate parking for the labor forces within their parking garage during construction so there should be no negative impact on parking in the Village. The sidewalks on both 21st and Wedgewood will stay open full time during construction. It will be necessary to reduce the sidewalk widths in the immediate area surrounding the work. A permanent fence will be installed in areas where the sidewalk width will be reduced protecting the walking public from the work, and the bike racks and bus stop on Wedgewood will be moved slightly north during construction to assure they have the room to continue to operate properly. Thanks to Burkley Allen - Metro Council District 18 for this update.

CRIME & SAFETY UPDATE from Metropolitan Nashv...

CRIME & SAFETY UPDATE from Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. February 28, 2018 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Officers assigned to the Juvenile Crime Reduction Task Force tonight arrested two 16-year-olds, one of them an alleged carjacker, and a 17-year-old who fled from them in a Toyota Camry that was stolen on Sunday from the 4100 block of Hillsboro Pike. Officer Benjamin Spees spotted the stolen Camry on Wedgewood Avenue near 12th Avenue South and attempted to follow it until unmarked support units could arrive in the area. However, the 16-year-old driver noticed Spees’ police car and fled. Given the weather conditions, Spees did not engage in a pursuit. A short time later, a Midtown Hills Precinct undercover detective saw the Camry in an alley near the 2100 block of 11th Avenue North. As officers approached, the three teens ran. They were all apprehended after a short foot pursuit. The 16-year-old driver of the Camry was already wanted for an armed carjacking that occurred at 1:10 a.m. on Sunday where a woman was robbed of her Nissan Sentra near 2000 Belcourt Avenue. That 16-year-old is being charged tonight with aggravated robbery, unlawful gun possession and vehicle theft. The two teens with him tonight are charged with joyriding. The carjacked Sentra was recovered at 9:20 a.m. Sunday after North Precinct Officer Raymond Heymann spotted it on 17th Avenue North. Two other 16-year-olds, a boy and a girl, were by themselves in the car and were arrested. He was charged with vehicle theft. She was charged with joyriding. The continuing investigation led to the identity of the 16-year-old alleged carjacker arrested tonight. In an unrelated case from Friday night, the Juvenile Crime Reduction Task Force stopped a van on Buena Vista Pike near Clarksville Pike for having an expired tag and an inoperable brake light. The 17-year-old driver, when asked whether anything illegal was in the vehicle, replied that there was a pistol. A .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine containing 19 rounds was found underneath the seat along with a nine millimeter semi-automatic pistol loaded with 11 rounds. Both pistols had been reported stolen. Also in the car was a baggie containing 1.7 grams of marijuana. The 17-year-old was taken to juvenile detention and charged with multiple offenses. ###

Mayor Megan Barry will participate in a publi...

Mayor Megan Barry will participate in a public signing event for Executive Order No. 40 on Urban Forestry Tuesday, February 13 at 1 PM at The Belmont University BookStore located at 1700 Portland Ave. This executive action recognizes trees as a public utility, establishes new guidelines to govern Metro’s planting and maintenance of trees, and appoints a new Urban Forestry Program Manager to lead and coordinate all Metro tree-related activities. Mayor Barry will be joined by District 18 Councilmember Burkley Allen; Belmont University President Bob Fisher; Metro’s new Urban Forestry Program Manager Naomi Rotramel; and appointed members of both Mayor Barry’s Livable Nashville Committee and the Metro Tree Advisory Committee. During recent heavy renovations, The Belmont Store went to great lengths to both protect and enhance the survival of a 60-70’ historic elm (ulmus Americana) tree on its property. It is Belmont University’s policy to try to preserve existing trees during any construction-related activities on its campus. Nashville’s recent development boom has placed significant pressure on the urban tree canopy, so Mayor Barry’s Livable Nashville sustainability plan has set an umbrella goal of 50 percent countywide tree-canopy coverage by the year 2050—an approximate addition of 300,000 net new trees planted by 2030, or 500,000 net new trees by 2050. Executive Order No. 40 seeks to help Nashville achieve its long-term sustainability goals: protecting air and water quality, improving public health, and saving public dollars on heavy infrastructure to mitigate stormwater impacts.
