Tennessee Department of Agriculture added 15 ...

Although many of us do enjoy tasty turkey for our Thanksgiving feasts, one particularly special bird won't be on the menu this year. Danny the Turkey received a pardon from Commissioner of Agriculture Jai Templeton at the Franklin Farmers Market this morning. Assistant Commissioner Ed Harlan joined Commissioner Templeton for the annual event. Danny is the pet of Sue and Adam Turtle of Earth Advocates Research Farm. He is a 5-year-old royal palm heritage bird and a wonderful ambassador for all feathered friends. Thanks to the Franklin Farmers Market for inviting us to participate. For your Thanksgiving meal, find recipes (with or without turkey), farmers markets, farm-direct meats, and artisan food offerings from local businesses with Pick TN Products.

Country music and Nashville's honky-tonk row grew up together

Country music and Nashville's honky-tonk row grew up together
Bachelorette parties, neon honky-tonks with window stages, and celebrity-driven restaurants reign supreme on Nashville's Lower Broadway these days. In the name of growth, construction cranes dot the city's skyline and historic buildings on Music Row are often threatened or lost to make way for new condo buildings as shiny as Carrie Underwood's Grammy Awards gown.

Johnny Cash Museum owner, Merle Haggard’s family partner in Nashville venture

Last fall, Bill Miller paid just over $7 million for the building at 121 Third Ave. S. that houses Mr. Hat’s Boot Co.

On Monday Bill Miller will be joined by the family of the Bakersfield Sound pioneer, who died last year, for a special announcement above the Cash Museum at 119 Third Ave. S.

Since opening the Cash Museum in 2013, Miller has added Nudie’s Honky Tonk at 409 Broadway in honor of deceased country music tailor Nudie Cohn. And last year, he opened the Patsy Cline Museum in space directly above the Cash Museum.

That includes the historic Southern Turf Building at 222 Fourth Ave. N., whose basement houses Skull's Rainbow Room. Before buying that National Register-building for $6 million, Miller purchased a majority stake in the Skull's bar and lounge that’s known for its burlesque shows.
