Dear Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, It is with...

Dear Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of Gene TeSelle. Gene is an icon of Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, creating our group in 1971 to promote neighborhood improvement through inclusion, planning & zoning and advocacy. A native of Ames, Iowa, Gene received his BA from University of Colorado, a BD from Princeton Theological Seminary and his PhD from Yale where he taught for seven years before moving to Nashville where he spent the next 30 years on the faculty of the Divinity School at Vanderbilt. Gene and Penny lived, worked and played in the Belmont Hillsboro Neighborhood for most of their lives together. They met in the PTA at Eakin School and soon married, blending their families and raising Gene’s two and Penny’s three children. They now have nine grandchildren. After retiring, Gene & Penny remained active with Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, with Gene guiding and mentoring us as our neighborhood grew and changed over the years. His thoughtful advice, opinion and historical background has strengthened BHN and made each of us better in the process. He will be greatly missed. Representative John Ray Clemmons will introduce and pass a Resolution in the House in his honor. 18th District Council Member Burkley Allen will introduce a Council Resolution as well. Read more about Gene’s life and his service here. Gene’s life will be celebrated with a service of witness to the resurrection on Saturday, March 17 at Second Presbyterian Church located at 3511 Belmont Blvd, Nashville, TN 37215. The service will begin at 10 AM with a reception to follow. Take a moment of your day today and give thanks to Gene TeSelle for his service to our neighborhood and a life well lived.
