    In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I found First Harvest Café. Like many after that terrible storm of August 2005, I felt compelled to Do Something. Anything. And because I had sold my catering company just nine months earlier, I had skills I could bring to the table, and time.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - The Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee has increased disaster box production to help hurricane relief efforts. The help was requested by FEMA and Feeding America as Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico remain devastated after multiple hurricanes this season. Second Harvest needs nearly 500 volunteers per week between now and Dec.

    Even though it is known as Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee , the reach of this excellent nonprofit organization goes far beyond just our hometown. They have recently responded to requests from FEMA and Feed America to provide disaster boxes to victims of Harvey, Irma and Maria in Texas, Florida and Puerto RIco respectively.

First Harvest Cafe is closing

If you want to get in on this, the lunches are from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. on Fridays at Second Harvest, 331 Great Circle Road in MetroCenter.

    I am sad to report that Second Harvest Food Bank is closing its Culinary Arts Center and First Harvest Cafe, which means the end of the delicious $12 Friday international lunches I have been enjoying for years at the food bank.
