A Letter From the Scene's New Owner
One of the exhibits on display at the Frist Art Museum right now is We Shall Overcome, a display of photographs taken by The Tennessean and the Nashville Banner during the 1950s and 1960s, one of the most tumultuous times in our country's history. At the time, the two papers were seen as competitors.

New restaurant Sunda expands Nashville's dining horizons to Southeast Asia
The Sunda shelf is the vast extension of Southeast Asia, a geological mass that includes the Malay Peninsula, Java, Borneo, Sumatra, Bali, The Philippines and surrounding islands. It's a fitting name for Billy Dec's New Asian restaurant, which has offerings from throughout the region, a commingling of cooking traditions found in the lands throughout the South China Sea.

...Just drop your clean extra T-shirts off in the lobby of The Tennessean at 1100 Broadway during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) by June...

Give us your T-shirts, help Nashville's homeless
CLOSE It is T-shirt time - yes, the third annual "Ms. Cheap T-shirt Drive for the Homeless" is underway. I don't literally want the shirt off your back, but I would love to have all of those T-shirts that you are not wearing (or sentimentally saving) to donate to Room in the Inn to give away to its homeless clients throughout the sweaty summer months.

Gail Davies' birthday show with Chris Scruggs, 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at the Station Inn (402 12th Ave. S). $15 at the door; admission includes a copy of Davies' CD "Beyond the Realm of Words."

Groundbreaking producer Gail Davies to play Station Inn
It's been 42 years since Gail Davies moved to Nashville from Los Angeles, but despite what the calendar says, "I still think I'm 35," she explained. No matter the math, Davies' accomplishments can't be discounted, though in recent years they've often been overlooked.

5 burgers to try in Nashville
CLOSE May is National Burger Month. It's also National Salad Month, but I'm going to wait a minute on that to pay homage to the food that I love so much even cartoon versions of it make me hungry. Seriously, when I was little and watched Wimpy eating hamburgers on Popeye cartoons, I always wanted one so badly.

Plan Bravo?

...were secretly floating mass transit alongside new convention centers and arenas when I worked at 1100 Broadway. I saw the drawings then. We didn't think those would happen in our lifetimes...

    Plan Bravo?
Okay, I thought the vote would be closer than what we got. I was not expecting a victory for transit, but geez... Once upon a time I was a card-carrying, hyphen-loving non-shill for local business-oriented types. I'm still friendly with that crowd (but more friendly with the free thinkers trying to overthrow the patriarchy...don't tell them!)

The Pie Wagon, in Business Since 1922, Will Close Its Doors Tomorrow

...building on 12th Ave. North in the 1960s, eventually landing at its current location at 1302 Division St.

The Pie Wagon, in Business Since 1922, Will Close Its Doors Tomorrow
After 96 years in business, The Pie Wagon, a meat-and-three known as a go-to back in its heyday for Nashville's music industry community, will close its doors after lunch service tomorrow. According to The Tennessean the closure, first announced on the restaurant's Facebook page earlier this week, is due to Metro Water Department mandated plumbing upgrades that owner David Biggs has deemed "too expensive to do and stay profitable."
